Certificate in Advertising and Editorial Photography
Overview
This part-time, blended programme will introduce you to the world of creative photography for newspapers, magazines, publishing and design agencies.
Course Details
This certificate introduces the role of photography within communication design. It introduces learners to the materials, techniques, and terminology related to specific creative and technical processes in photography and advertising.
You’ll be given the opportunity to explore, both practically and theoretically, the use of photography in contemporary media. It will introduce you to Creative Photography for newspapers, magazines, publishing, and design agencies.
Key photographers and photographic practice are addressed with the introduction of research methodologies, professionalism, and ethics. Development of creative thinking, ideas generation, brief solving, and shooting to fit a layout are also incorporated.
Timetables
This course is scheduled to commence in September 2025 at Griffith College Dublin's Main Campus.
This part-time programme runs one evening per week over 12 weeks.

All applicants must have a good working knowledge of DSLR or mirrorless camera operation, including basic camera settings and exposure.
If you do not yet have experience using a DSLR or mirrorless camera or are unfamiliar with manual settings and exposure, we recommend completing our 2-Day Digital Photography for Beginners or 10-Week Professional Certificate in Digital Photography & Visual Media before enrolling in this certificate programme.

These Irish Government-funded programmes are only available to Non-EU/Non-EEA applicants who are currently resident in Ireland with an Immigration Stamp 4/Stamp 4 EU FAM, who have been living in Ireland with a valid Stamp 4/Stamp 4 EU FAM for 3 out of the last 5 years. The period of residency for holders of Stamp 4/Stamp 4 EU FAM is calculated from the date of receipt of the Stamp 4/Stamp 4 EU FAM.
Fees
For purposes of fee calculation, residence is counted from the time of application.

An Academic Administration Fee of €250 is payable each September at the start of term. For students starting in the January/February term, €125 is payable in February, and then €250 will be payable each September from then onwards

Dublin Main Campus: €1641.20
(Inclusive of Tuition Fee €1310.00, Academic Administration Fee €250.00, 2% Learner Protection Charge (€31.20) and €50.00 QQI Award fee)
An Academic Administration Feeof EUR250.00 and a2%****Learner Protection Charge is applicable each academic year in addition to the fees quoted.
Progression
This programme provides a pathway for applicants that do not have formal qualifications or training in art and design and maybe considering a career of academic study in this field. On completion of this course, students can progress to the first year of our BA in Graphic Communication Design progress with Design.
Successful completion of the certificate’s component module(s) entitles learners to exemption(s) from the related module(s) on degree programme(s) at Griffith College. Please contact the Admissions Office for information on progression options into degrees.
The parchment provided to learners completing the programme, plus their transcript of results and credits attained, may be used by the learner to confirm their achievement (and support their progression to another programme of study with another institution should they wish to do so).
