Overview of the LLB (Hons) Law with International Relations with Integrated Foundation Year

The LLB (Hons) Law with International Relations with Integrated Foundation Year is a four-year course that provides students with an introductory foundation year, developing their academic skills and confidence. This course is designed for those who have not previously studied law, but it is also suitable for those who have.

The Course Structure

• The initial foundation year develops the academic skills needed to excel at degree level and provides a broad overview of the English legal system, global law, public law, and the law of obligations.
• The course covers the seven core foundations of legal knowledge, including:

• Students will also examine Britain's place in the international context, considering cultural diplomacy throughout the 21st century to develop their knowledge of contemporary international relations.

Teaching and Assessment

Preparation for SQE

• The course provides dedicated support for the new postgraduate examinations for solicitors, known as the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE 1 and SQE 2).
• Students will be supported in preparing for the first SQE, which they can sit after completing their degree.

Work Placements

• During their second year, students will have the opportunity to undertake a work placement, gaining vital real-world experience of working within the law profession.
• Placements can be taken at local law firms, in-house legal departments, Citizens Advice, or local authorities.

Study Abroad

• The university offers opportunities for students to study abroad during their course, broadening their horizons and immersing themselves in a new culture.

Careers

• The course allows students to work towards becoming solicitors or barristers.
• Other career paths include paralegal, legal secretaries, in-house lawyers, human resources, local and national government, civil services, and teaching.

Course Costs

• The course fees for 2026/27 are:
  • UK fee - foundation year: Ł5,760
  • UK fee - years 1, 2, and 3: Ł9,790 per year
  • International fee: Ł16,800
• EU/EEA students automatically pay the equivalent of UK fees via the EU/EEA Fee Reduction Scholarship.

Entry Requirements

• Applying through Clearing: The university takes a flexible approach, considering each application individually.
• Typical offer: 48 UCAS tariff points or a Pass in Legal Services (T Level).
• IELTS: 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in writing or equivalent if English is not the first language.
• Non-standard application entry routes: The university considers applicants with relevant skills and experience but without formal minimum entry qualifications.
