MSci Advanced Applied Psychology

The MSci Advanced Applied Psychology degree allows students to engage with all areas of psychology and gain a scientific understanding of the mind, brain, behaviour, and experience. This integrated master's degree programme combines undergraduate and postgraduate study into a single course, enabling students to graduate with a level 7 qualification equivalent to an MSc at the end of their fourth year.

Overview

The programme explores the core principles that underline everyday human experience, examining how certain behaviours can be explained using psychological constructs and methods of investigation. Students will study core principles, including biological psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, individual difference psychology, mental health and forensic psychology, and social psychology.

The Course

The course is divided into four years, with each year building on the previous one. In the first year, students will explore the fundamental principles of psychology studies, learning key research methods and skills. The second year will expand students' knowledge of all areas of psychology, further developing their experiment design, research analysis, and criticism skills. In the third year, students will apply their skills and understanding to a variety of real-world contexts, developing their professional research skills ahead of their final year project. The final year will focus on a specialist scientific research project, where students will apply all their knowledge and skills to a final research dissertation project of their choice.

Teaching and Assessment

The course features smaller class sizes, allowing for better learning and more support from experienced and expert staff. Students will be assessed through a range of assignments, including scientific reports, essays, exams, group and individual presentations, poster design, and research participation.

Experience

The University of Chichester offers a range of specialist research equipment and facilities, including a Brain Imaging Unit and Neuroimaging: NIRScout, eye tracking software, a Virtual Reality Unit and Immersive Suite, an Advanced Physiological Data Acquisition system, and specialist Advanced Research Software.

Study Abroad

Students have the opportunity to study part of their course abroad, broadening their horizons and immersing themselves in a new culture.

Careers

The MSci Advanced Psychology degree qualifies for Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR) with the British Psychological Society (BPS), providing a recognised foundation to progress to specialist areas of psychology and eventually become a Chartered Psychologist. The course also provides a good insight into human behaviour, equipping students with skills to work in a wide range of fields, including industry, media, teaching, and IT.

Course Costs

The course fees for 2026/27 are:

• UK fee - Years 1, 2 & 3: Ł9,790 per year
• UK fee - Year 4: Ł8,321.50
• International fee: Ł16,800

Entry Requirements

Typical offers include:

• UCAS: 120 tariff points from A levels or combination with Extended Project / BTEC / Cambridge Technical
• A Levels: BBB
• BTEC/Cambridge Technical: DDD (Applied Science)
• Access to HE Diploma: Pass, including 12 science credits at Merit
• GCSEs: C/4 or higher in English language, mathematics, and a science
• IB: 26-28 points, including science Higher at 4
• IELTS: 6.0 overall, with no element lower than 5.5

Non-standard Application Entry Routes

The University has an alternative entry route for applicants who have relevant skills and experience but do not hold the formal minimum entry qualifications required. Applicants will be asked to complete an entry task involving the completion of specially set assignments.
