Course essentials

You will study the scientific basis of endodontology, diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with complex endodontic problems, and clinical treatment of patients with endodontic and other restorative problems. You will also study and develop research methodology skills to enable you to undertake a research project and further your expertise. We will train you with the latest evidence-based knowledge in endodontology and enable you to successfully integrate endodontic therapy with the other aspects of restorative dentistry. Delivered primarily online, the course also provides 14 days of intensive face-to-face teaching and practical training in London in the first 2 years. Our expert tutors will give you guidance on complex dental procedures at our specialist postgraduate teaching centre, LonDEC, which offers state-of-the-art simulation and digital training facilities. The face-to-face component takes place for seven consecutive days in Year 1 and seven consecutive days in Year 2. These training blocks are an invaluable way to consolidate learning and progress through to the final year.

Waterloo Campus is home of the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery and facilities for other faculties. Please note that locations are determined by where each module is taught and may vary depending on the modules you study.

Entry requirements

UK applicants

  • Standard requirements: A recognised undergraduate dental qualification.
  • Programme-Specific Requirements: A dental qualification acceptable to King's with employment as a dentist in a dental practice, dental school, hospital, or community dental services environment.
  • Access to facilities and equipment - students are required to have:
    • Access to adequate clinical facilities and to patients requiring treatment relevant to the subject area.
    • Approved photography equipment, as part of the monitoring process (advice on this will be given in the first face-to-face teaching block).
  • Other requirements:
    • Headset, microphone and webcam.
    • High quality internet connection for tutorials with minimum speeds of 2Mbps down and 3Mbps up.
    • JavaScript, cookies and pop up windows must be enabled.

International applicants

  • Equivalent International qualifications: International applicants are required to have a Dental degree from a recognised institution. The recognised status of an institution will be assessed after submission of an application.
  • English language requirements: English language band: D. To study at King's, it is essential that you can communicate in English effectively in an academic environment. You are usually required to provide certification of your competence in English before starting your studies.

Selection process

Our first application deadline is 1 November 2025 (23:59 UK time). The final application deadline for this programme is 21 November 2025 (23:59 UK time). After the first application deadline:


  • If the programme is not yet full, we will continue to accept applications until all available places are filled, up to the final application deadline above.
  • If the programme becomes full before the final application deadline stated above, we will close the programme to further applications.

Personal statement and supporting information

You will be asked to submit the following documents in order for your application to be considered:


  • Personal statement: Yes. A personal statement is required. This can be entered directly into the online application form (maximum 4,000 characters) or uploaded as an attachment to the online application form (maximum 2 pages). You should describe how the degree will fit into your career plan and demonstrate a focused interest in the programme. You should also confirm that you have read and can comply with the computing specification required to commence the programme, which can be viewed in the entry requirements section, and provide details of your access to: adequate clinical facilities and an appropriate selection of patients; approved video equipment, as part of the monitoring process (advice on this will be given in the first intensive face-to-face course); an appropriate dental library.
  • Previous Academic Study: Yes. A copy (or copies) of your official academic transcript(s), showing the subjects studied and marks obtained. If you have already completed your degree, copies of your official degree certificate will also be required. Applicants with academic documents issued in a language other than English, will need to submit both the original and official translation of their documents.
  • References: Yes. One academic reference is required. A professional reference will be accepted if you have completed your qualifications over five years ago.
  • Other: Optional. You may also wish to include a CV (Resume) or evidence of professional registration as part of your application.

You will be taught mostly online through King’s E-learning and Teaching Service (KEATS) which provides information, interactive questions, assignments, use of bibliographic databases and reading material. You will have access to the extensive King's Library Facilities. Our students participate in online tutorials and discussion groups, interacting with expert tutors and their fellow students. Face-to-face lectures and hands-on training take place in blocks in the first two years. Students are required to undertake and build a reflective log of clinical work in their own general practice.


Students are required to have access to adequate clinical facilities and to patients requiring treatment relevant to the subject area.


The face-to-face component normally takes place over seven consecutive days in Year 1, and seven consecutive days in Year 2 at King’s College London's Waterloo Campus.

Notes to applicants

  • Students should note that the course does not prepare candidates for the RCS MEndo examinations or represent a pathway to registration with the GDC (UK) as an Endodontic specialist.
  • The provision of any clinical opinions, treatment planning, treatment plans and/or any advice in relation to care of individual patients will not be provided by the teachers and staff of the course. Patient treatment and care is the sole responsibility of the treating clinician. Advice regarding the suitability of a clinical case for submission for the clinical module can be given at the tutor’s discretion.

Assessment

Typically, each module will be assessed through exams and/or assignments, with the exception of the Operative Procedures module and the Endodontic Retreatment/Surgery & Restoration of Endodontically Treated Teeth module which will be assessed through clinical portfolios, and your final project, which will normally be assessed by a 10,000-word written report.


You can take your exams in London or, for overseas students, at centres in your country of residence.

Deposit

When you receive an offer for this course you will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit of £1,000 to secure your place. The deposit will be credited towards your total fee payment.


  • If you receive an offer before 31 May, payment is due by 30 June.
  • If you receive an offer between 1 June and 30 August, payment is due within one month of receiving the offer.
  • If you receive an offer between 1 September and 31 October, payment is due within two weeks of receiving the offer.
  • If you receive an offer between 1 November and 30 November, payment is due within one week from the offer date.
