EU Competition Law PG Dip

Course essentials
Our PG Diploma course focuses on the constituent provisions of EU Competition Law: Articles 101, 102, 106, 107, 108, 109 and the Merger Regulation. One unit also discusses the Digital Markets Act. You will also study joint ventures, cartels, distribution agreements and licenses of intellectual property rights. The remaining modules deal with particular problems of EU Competition Law procedure and enforcement. This course is distance learning (with two residential weekend seminars in London).

Located on the north bank of the River Thames, the Strand Campus houses King's College London's arts and sciences faculties.

Standard requirements
A minimum 2:1 undergraduate Bachelor’s (honours) degree
If you have a lower degree classification , or a degree in an unrelated subject, your application may be considered if you can demonstrate significant relevant work experience, or offer a related graduate qualification (such as a Masters or PGDip).
Programme-Specific Requirements
2:1 undergraduate degree in law, a related discipline, or be a qualified barrister or solicitor. Applications from candidates who have achieved a comparable academic level through past studies and where previous study, work or experience has made the applicant a suitable candidate for admission may also be considered.
In order to meet the academic entry requirements for this programme you should have a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme. If you are still studying you should be achieving an average of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme.

To study at King's, it is essential that you can communicate in English effectively in an academic environment. You are usually required to provide certification of your competence in English before starting your studies.
Nationals of majority English speaking countries (as defined by the UKVI) who have permanently resided in this country are not usually required to complete an additional English language test. This is also the case for applicants who have successfully completed an undergraduate degree (of at least three years duration), a postgraduate taught degree (of at least one year), or a PhD in a majority English speaking country (as defined by the UKVI) within five years of the course start date.

Students apply through the portal at Informa Connect.
We aim to turn around applications within four weeks.
Personal statement and supporting information
You will be asked to submit the following documents in order for your application to be considered. Please apply via the Informa application portal.
- Personal statement: Yes, A personal statement is required. This can be uploaded as an attachment to the online application form (maximum 2 pages).
- Previous Academic Study: Yes, A certified copy of your official degree certificate. Applicants with academic documents issued in a language other than English, will need to submit both the original and official translation of their documents.
- References: Yes, One professional or, if you are a recent graduate, one academic reference.
- Other: Yes, You may also wish to include a CV (Resume) or evidence of professional registration as part of your application. In addition you are asked to submit a certified copy of your passport page. English language proficiency test results must be included if you are not a native English speaker.
Teaching & structure
Teaching methods - what to expect
Blended learning
This is a one-year distance-learning course, delivered via printed course materials and a dedicated website. The course also features two residential weekends of intensive study in London.
Study time
- Lectures, seminars and feedback: 32 hours (two residential weekend seminars)
- Self-study and participation in online discussion forums: 240+ hours
Typically, one credit equates to 10 hours of work.

For the PG Diploma your performance will be assessed through a combination of coursework and examinations. Forms of assessment typically include essays and examinations.
The study time and assessment methods detailed above are typical and give you a good indication of what to expect. However, they are subject to change.
Structure
Required modules
Courses are divided into modules. For the PG Diploma you will normally take modules totalling 120 credits. You are required to take the following modules:
- Principles of EU Competition Law (45 credits)
- Practical Application of EU Competition Law (45 credits)
- EU Competition Law Procedure (30 credits)

Please note that modules with a practical component will be capped due to educational requirements, which may mean that we cannot guarantee a place to all students who elect to study this module.

Students who have achieved the EU Competition Law Postgraduate Diploma at merit level or above may apply for a second year where a 60 credit dissertation is written under supervision to gain an MA.

These tuition fees may be subject to additional increases in subsequent years of study, in line with King’s terms and conditions.
Deposit
No deposit is required.
Depending on your country of residence, you may also have to pay Goods and Services Tax (GST) in addition to your tuition fees. You can find further information on the King's Goods and Services tax page.

In addition to your tuition costs, you can also expect to pay for:

- Library fees and fines.

- Travel and accommodation for weekend seminars.
