Course Description
Our one-year intercalated Physiology BSc gives you the opportunity to explore the fascinating field of physiology in a fun and interactive manner. You will have the opportunity to learn from and engage with world-renowned experts and award-winning educationalists in the fields of cardiovascular biology, endocrinology, applied human physiology, and regenerative medicine. You will study the homeostatic control of physiological processes and systems, including their adaptation under different environmental and biological settings. There is a strong emphasis on understanding how systems become dysregulated and the pathophysiology of disease processes such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

- Entry requirements for MBBS students:
- King's students must have passed Stage 1 and Stage 2
- External students must have first-time passes for years 1 and 2 and all SSCs
- Entry requirements for Dental students:
- BDS students are required to pass year 2 at the first attempt and year 3 or 4 if applicable
- Entry requirements for Veterinary students:
- Veterinary students are required to pass year 2 at the first attempt and year 3 if applicable
Teaching and Structure
- Teaching methods: Practical laboratory work, seminars, self-study, and lectures
- Programme divided into modules totaling 120 credits
- Compulsory to undertake a Project module and at least 75 credits of Physiology modules
- Remaining credits can be taken from Physiology, Anatomy, Pharmacology, and Neuroscience modules
- Option to undertake a language module
- Three types of Physiology Project modules available to choose from
- Maximum of 45 credits worth of Project modules as part of the programme
Assessment
- Performance assessed through a combination of coursework and written/practical examinations
- Forms of assessment may typically include essays, lab reports, or oral presentations
- Coursework contributes approximately 30-40% and examinations approximately 70-60% to the final mark, depending on the choice of modules
Careers
- This Physiology iBSc will prepare medical students with in-depth knowledge of how various physiological pathways and systems are regulated and become dysregulated leading to the manifestation of disease
- Graduates are equipped with a variety of transferable skills, including data gathering, analysis and interpretation, presentation skills, and teamwork
- Graduates are well-qualified to undertake a wide range of careers or training for a higher degree, such as an MSc or PhD
Tuition Fees
- Full-time tuition fees UK: £9,535 per year (based on the UK Government's cap)
- Full-time tuition fees International: £35,800 per year (subject to annual increases in subsequent years of study)
- International applicants required to pay a deposit of £0 against their first year's tuition fee
