Course Essentials

The programme is divided into three components: a clinical placement, taught modules and a research project and dissertation. The course is run by King's Undergraduate Medical Education in the Community (KUMEC) within the Centre for Education, GKT School of Medical Education, Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine and involves collaboration with the Departments of Physiotherapy and Primary Care Research.


Base Campus

  • Guy's Campus: The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences, and the Institute of Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience are based at the riverside Guy's Campus, next to the Shard.

  • Application deadlines:
    • The application deadline for King's internal students is 26th January 2025.

  • Entry requirements for MBBS students:
    • King’s students must have passed Stage 1 and Stage 2.
    • External students must have first time passes for years 1 and 2 and all SSCs.
  • Entry requirements for Dental students:
    • BDS students are required to pass year 2 at the first attempt and year 3 or 4 if applicable.
  • Entry requirements for Veterinary students:
    • Veterinary students are required to pass year 2 at the first attempt and year 3 if applicable.

Teaching & Structure

  • Teaching methods: Lectures, seminars, tutorials, and self-study.
  • Location: This course is primarily taught at the King’s College London Guy’s Campus.
  • Clinical placement: The clinical placement will be in a general practice setting in a practice that is approved by KUMEC and within 90 mins commute from Guy’s campus.

Employability

  • This programme is an optional component of the MBBS and hence has been designed to develop future doctors with enhanced skills in leadership, scholarship, teamwork and an excellent grounding in general healthcare.
  • As well as opportunities to improve clinical and consultation skills there is a focus on quality improvement, leadership, motivational interviewing and research, which are highly relevant and desirable in a wide range of specialities and professions.
