Objectives:

  • The MSc aims to offer you in-depth exploration of current concepts in clinical endodontics.
  • It is intended to provide you with extended knowledge and understanding of the subject, helping you to improve your clinical skills and increase your job satisfaction in this discipline.
  • The program is ideal if you are a busy dental practitioner who wishes to gain an endodontic qualification while you continue to work in practice.
  • The Endodontic Practice MSc is a three-year part-time program, which requires a minimum commitment of at least one day a week and physical attendance one day every fortnight. It also requires physical attendance one day every fortnight. The program is delivered by a team with a track record in this specialty and, since 1990, also in specialist private practice. The team boasts a General Dental Council (UK) registered specialist in Endodontics and, since 1990, also in specialist private practice. The program is designed to enable working dental practitioners to develop their knowledge and clinical skills in endodontics. This is a three-year part-time program, requiring a commitment of at least one day a week and physical attendance one day every fortnight. On the weeks when your physical attendance is not required, you will still need to put aside a day for personal study and completion of assignments. The program is delivered through a combination of seminars, laboratory skills sessions, supervised clinical sessions, self-directed learning, case presentations, and personal reading. You will be assigned an Academic Adviser who will guide you in both academic and pastoral matters throughout your time at Queen Mary.

The program covers six compulsory modules consisting of:

  • Applied Science of Endodontology
  • Advanced Applied Science of Endodontology
  • Laboratory Endodontic Skills
  • Clinical Skills in Endodontics
  • Literature Review in Relation to Endodontic Practice
  • Audit Project in Endodontic Practice

Assessment:

The program assesses students through a variety of methods, including:

  • Written papers
  • Practical tests
  • Essay questions
  • Viva voce
  • Clinical case reports
  • Literature reviews
  • Audit presentations

Dissertation:

For the Literature review and Audit project modules, each requires the completion of a dissertation.

  • Professor B S Chong
  • Professor of Restorative Dentistry, Honorary Clinical Consultant, Barts Health NHS Trust
  • BDS, MSc., PhD (Lond), LDS RCS (Eng), FDS RCS (Eng), MFGDP (UK), MRD, FHEA
  • Professor Chong is the Director of MSc Endodontic Practice at the Institute of Dentistry, QMUL.
  • He is a General Dental Council (UK) registered Specialist in Endodontics and, since 1990, also in specialist private practice. Professor Chong's professional career combines clinical practice with teaching, scholarship, and research. He has been involved with the education and training of dentists and future specialists for over 30 years. He was previously associated with Guy's (KCL) for over 22 years, including his Phd and teaching of future specialists.
