Program Overview
Overview
Point Blank’s Music Production & Composition Award is designed to help you develop your identity as a producer and composer. Designed and taught by industry professionals who’ve worked with the likes of Amy Winehouse, Shaggy, Ministry, Daft Punk, and more, this action-packed 3-month program will teach you to write and produce your own killer tracks in no time!
The first half of this program begins with an introduction to your chosen DAW (Ableton Live or Logic Pro) and leads on to explore the essential skills required to produce music. You will learn how a song is structured, how to create melodies, use virtual instruments, add effects to your sounds, arrange your tracks, use compression and EQ to finalize your mix, and much more. The second half of the program will focus on music composition: creating basslines, hooks, harmony, riffs, vocal tracks, and what it takes to publish your music as you establish your career.
When you enroll at Point Blank LA, you’ll be learning at our excellent college facility in professional studios using the latest industry tech on workstations equipped with Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Push, NI Komplete, Roland Cloud, and more. You’ll receive a copy of the Ableton Live 11 Suite ($749 value) or Apple Logic Pro X ($199 value) software included with the program and take part in exclusive masterclasses from the likes of Mark de Clive-Lowe, Laura Escude (Jay Z, Kanye West), Daddy Kev (Low End Theory) and Jimmy Mac (Lorde). Our Music Production: Ableton course gives students a thorough grounding in essential music production skills in Ableton Live. If you are serious about becoming a professional producer or sound engineer, then it is crucial to master these skills before you can progress further. It's perfect for beginners, but even if you have been making music for some time you will benefit from learning professional techniques from an experienced producer with major artist credits. This course also incorporates Ableton's hardware controller, Push.
Music Production: Logic
Recently updated to include the exciting new features of Logic 10.5, Intro to Music Production gives students a thorough grounding in essential music production skills in Logic Pro. If you are serious about becoming a professional producer or sound engineer, then it is crucial to master these skills before you can progress further. It is perfect for beginners, but even if you have been making music for some time you will benefit from learning professional techniques from an experienced producer with major artist credits.

Music Composition
It's relatively easy to get a bunch of loops happening but not everyone can mould them into a finished, dynamic tune. Music Composition will help you achieve this. It shifts the focus from the technical to the musical elements within your track. Even if you don't make music with lyrics you still need to understand how tracks are structured in order to elevate your music above that of your competitors. If you want to sell your songs and/or make a living from your music, it is crucial to have an understanding of music theory, composition, and arrangement techniques.
