The details Course: Western Marxism and Translation Start date: October 2023 Study mode: Full-time Maximum duration: 1 year Location: Colchester Campus Based in: Philosophy and Art History (School of) This course been temporarily suspended for the 2023-24 academic year only. Our MA Western Marxism and Translation will equip you both with important subject knowledge in Western Marxism and translation skills from English into your mother tongue. You will study at a world-leading centre for Western Marxism, with modules focused on the Frankfurt School, and Western Marxist critiques of capitalism. You will also benefit from the excellent translation modules and expertise available at Essex. To cap off your studies, you will – with the help of individual supervision by both a subject expert and a translation expert – translate a not-yet-translated source from Western Marxism and write a scholarly commentary on it. This will place you in an excellent position to pursue an academic career (or another career in research or teaching). Our expert staff

Our open-minded and enthusiastic staff are known for our unique combination of Anglo-American and European philosophy, and as a leading centre for critical theory, phenomenology, German idealism and medical humanities. Specialist facilities

• Graduate students have access to desk space in the School and many students work there on a daily basis

Your future

Many of our philosophy graduates embark on doctoral study after finishing their MA. We offer supervision for PhDs in a range of fields including:

• Continental philosophy
• Critical Social Theory
• History of philosophy
• Applied ethics

Our graduates have also gone into careers in law, the media, local administration, HM Revenue and Customs, and top jobs in the Civil Service. We work with the university’s Careers Services to help you find out about further work experience, internships, placements, and voluntary opportunities.
