About

This undergraduate degree is a top-up year for the Chelsea FC Foundation Coaching and Development FdSc, leading to the award of Bachelor of Science.


  • Unique collaborative relationship with Chelsea FC Foundation with a variety of work placement opportunities.
  • Opportunity to develop coaching practice and use sport as a vehicle for social change in Chelsea FC Foundation settings.
  • Variety of teaching venues, including St Mary's University, Chelsea FC training ground (Cobham), and Stamford Bridge.

This top-up year gives you the opportunity to develop and enhance your knowledge, understanding, and practical application of:

You will also complete both your placement and research project within Chelsea FC Foundation projects and programmes.

How the Degree is Taught

Teaching Methods

You'll be taught on our beautiful and historic campus located in Twickenham, London.


Teaching methods include:


  • practicals
  • seminars
  • lectures
  • workshops
  • observations
  • in-situ practical’s (at various Chelsea FC Foundation contexts)
  • problem-based sessions
  • technology-based sessions
  • and peer teaching.

We believe a variety of teaching methods and learning experiences best prepare our students for the realities of working within football and we look to develop skill sets that can be used post-graduation.


Class sizes are around 40 students which offers learners a personable and tailored approach to learning.


Assessment Methods

A range of assessment methods and strategies will be utilised in the delivery of this degree. Presentations, small group work, workshops and practical sessions will be used to create a positive and enabling learning environment.


The assessments of the modules will be aligned to modes of teaching and learning. Specifically, the assessments will help develop skills and competencies that are required in the workplace.

In order to study this programme, you will need to have successfully completed Chelsea FC Foundation Coaching and Development foundation course or an equivalent programme at another institution.
