This programme offers you the opportunity to be at the forefront of developments in coaching and mentoring within schools and other educational and sports establishments.

Course Content

  • This course is based on your own practice and is therefore highly relevant to your professional role and context.
  • The variety of modes of delivery enables you to engage with the MA in the way that best suits your preferred learning style.

Target Audience

This Master's degree is designed to meet the professional development needs of teachers and other education and sports professionals. This includes:

  • Business managers
  • Chaplains
  • Librarians
  • Data managers

Coaching and Mentoring will fit your needs regardless of the phase of schooling or educational contexts you work in, and no matter which stage of your career you're at.

Programme Objectives

The programme enables you - as a current or aspiring middle or senior leader - to engage in critical reflection on your own experience and perception of coaching and mentoring. It will help you to develop your coaching and mentoring practice and gain a theoretical understanding of the subject.

You'll explore the current landscape within coaching and mentoring and how it relates to your own context. During the programme you'll also select an aspect of coaching and mentoring to analyse and investigate, bringing about change within your own practice and organisation.

Why St Mary's

St Mary’s University is renowned for outstanding Initial Teacher Training and postgraduate teacher education, and sporting excellence. Building on this foundation, we provide a flexible approach to this Coaching and Mentoring programme.

The course is delivered at the University and as a distance learning programme, meaning you can attend St Mary’s or via video conferencing. One-to-one tutorial support ensures that all students are supported throughout their studies with St Mary’s.

For MA Education, distance learning is where students engage with lectures, alongside students on site, at set times through video conferencing.

You will apply your learning to practical situations within your own setting, using your knowledge to impact on coaching and mentoring provision, whilst critically engaging with contemporary debates relating to the coaching and mentoring landscape.

Throughout the programme you'll be working with postgraduate tutors who have experience in teaching, elite sport, management and leadership as well as research and consultancy.
