Program Overview


This national qualification was designed by industry in 2010 to meet the needs of the New Zealand engineering sector and includes core and elective courses focused on the design and implementation of engineering technology and aimed at providing you with sound thinking and problem solving abilities.

You will gain a solid grounding in engineering theory and principles of engineering science including design and drawing electrical, electronics, networks, programming and microcontrollers.

Working closely with professional engineers you will apply current and emerging technologies in new situations. Our courses are industry designed and during this programme you will develop sound thinking and problem solving skills for work in designing and implementing engineering technology.

It is expected that graduates will attain the educational underpinnings and work ready attributes defined in the Engineering New Zealand Graduate Profile for Engineering Technicians. The graduate profile defined by EngNZ is benchmarked internationally to the exemplar graduate attributes for graduates of technician education programmes recognised under the Dublin Accord.

It is expected that as a graduate, you will possess the educational underpinnings and work-ready attributes defined by the Engineering New Zealand Graduate Profile for Engineering Technicians.

The graduate profile is benchmarked internationally to the exemplar graduate attributes for graduates of engineering technician programmes recognised under the Dublin Accord. As such, your qualification can be recognised on the international stage by all accord member countries. Other potential career paths include electrical technician and electronic technician.

After successfully completing a Diploma in Engineering – Electronics, you can complement your qualification with a Bachelors degree including the Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Electrical).

You will study the principles and practices for the design and development of component electronics.
