Program Overview
The Health Care Assistant (HCA) Program trains you with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to function effectively as a front-line care-giver and respected member of a health care team.
Under the direction and supervision of a health professional, you provide person-centred care to promote and maintain the physical, emotional, cognitive and social well-being of your clients.
Upon completion of the HCA program, you are prepared to work in a variety of health care settings including home support, assisted living, residential/complex care, special care units, other home and community care settings and acute care.
This program includes classroom hours, home study hours, community and facility clinical placements and a final practicum.
Students who complete this program will be able to Register as a Health Care Assistant with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.
Students will be qualified to work as care aides in BC Care aides and community health workers are also known as health care assistants or HCAs. They are frontline care providers in a variety of institutional and community settings including home support agencies and residential care facilities.
