This two-year pathway is designed for students who wish to complete an Associate of Arts-Direct Transfer Agreement degree with a concentration in World Languages/Linguistics. Students in this program develop skills in verbal communication, analysis and research, multicultural awareness, group communication and collaboration, interpersonal communication, and language acquisition.

Seattle Central College currently offers courses in American Sign Language (ASL), Arabic, Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish. Students who hope to transfer at the junior level to a linguistics or specific World Languages program at a college or university should plan to complete two years of a language prior to transfer. Seattle Central currently offers the complete two-year course sequence in French. Students who choose other languages may want to take an intensive language program prior to transfer in order to transfer at a junior level.

The Spanish department offers two possibilities for students who have prior academic courses in the language: 1) Spanish placement exam; 2) Spanish credits by examination. Students can find these exams in the Testing Office of Seattle Central College.

Completion of this program allows students to transfer at the junior level to a Linguistics or specific World Languages program at a four-year college or university. Completion of this degree also opens doors to a variety of careers in sectors including non-profit, healthcare, international business, government, entertainment, legal and education.
