Program Overview

Why choose this course?

Occupational psychology at Wolverhampton is an applied programme. This means that at Wolverhampton we use scientific methods and results to solve practical problems of human behaviour in the workplace. We integrate theory and research, skill development and practice by developing the necessary subject matter expertise in our students so that they tactically improve organisational performance, and increase the effectiveness, satisfaction and wellbeing of teams and individuals at work.

Our students become immersed in contemporary topics in work psychology: leadership, engagement and motivation; wellbeing and work; work design; organisational change and development; psychological assessment at work; and learning, training and development. These topics provide students with the knowledge base required for stage one of the British Psychological Society Professional Training in Occupational Psychology.

The course is designed to not only develop a specialist psychological knowledge base but also practitioner skills in the field of Occupational Psychology including consulting, project management, business acumen and leadership skills.

What happens on the course?

During the programme you will be welcomed into our postgraduate community , working closely your fellow students and our team of Occupational and Organizational psychologists.

You will study a BPS accredited programme of modules, providing stage 1 training in occupational psychology. The modules you will study cover the main areas of Occupational Psychology knowledge required for a career in the field. Teaching takes place on City Campus, with occasional visits to our local partners off campus. Our structured timetable is designed to allow students to study alongside their other commitments.

In small groups you will participate in interactive sessions designed not only to allow you to gain the knowledge required for a career in Occupational Psychology, but to practice skills you will need, and experience selected Occupational Psychology interventions.
