Program Overview

Turn your passion for working with young children into a career and gain a qualification in early childhood education. Enjoy the convenience of online study with the hands-on support of our education tutors.

This is a great way to build an early childhood career and will set you up well for further study towards an early childhood teaching degree. Graduates can progress to OP7031 Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) online where they will continue to be supported by WITT staff.

Learners will take part in online study with the additional benefit of hands-on support from our WITT education tutors. Contact with your tutors and other students will occur at workshops, noho marae, tutorials and during practicums over the course of your study. During your practicum placement, you are required to actively participate for 30 hours a week in the routines of the early childhood centre.

This qualification consists of eight compulsory courses totalling 120 credits. All courses are 15 credits. The programme works in trimesters of 16 weeks. You will spend at least 2 days a week at an early childhood centre working alongside children and qualified early childhood teachers to integrate your learning in relation to everyday teaching experiences. A full-time work load for a trimester is three or four courses. Part-time is a minimum of two courses.
