Communication defines us as human beings.

This degree gives you a chance to think critically about media and communication in your own society and in a global context.

Drawing on a range of approaches (such as sociology, communication theory, politics and cultural studies), you’ll explore:

Language learning is a compulsory part of the course. Choose from nine languages with classes tailored to your existing ability - both beginners and experienced speakers welcome!

You’ll also explore how culture shapes communication. Your language and cultural knowledge will enable you to create coursework in ways that suit you.

The degree focusses on media theory and cultural history. It helps develop critical skills in:

The broad range of teaching and learning approaches means you'll develop skills sought by many sectors, both media-related and wider.

Many of our students gain extra practical skills through the Students' Union award winning media projects – NSTV, Radio, Impact magazine as well as the Creative Student Network.
