Program Overview

Sheffield is one of only a few universities in the north of England with a stand-alone economics department. So the department is large enough to cover a lot of specialist topics, which means more choice for you. Our staff are internationally respected. They advise UK government departments and international organisations such as the World Bank. Choose Sheffield and you also have the option of a year-long work placement with a relevant organisation. Students recently went on placement with the Bank of England, IBM and HM Treasury. If you take this option and complete the year successfully the title of your degree is amended to BA Economics with Employment Experience.The BSc is similar in structure to the BA. The main difference is there’s more emphasis on advanced technical skills, which means it’s suitable for students with A Level maths. Some of our graduates become professional economists. Others go into related professions such as banking, insurance and accounting. Some work for organisations such as Deloitte, Nestle, Rolls-Royce, the Office of Budget Responsibility and the Houses of Parliament.
