Sheffield is a solid first choice for civil engineering. The Guardian University Guide 2018 rates us 8th in the UK. We work closely with our partners in industry to develop course content. And first-year students are mentored by professionals.It’s a demanding course and spending a year on placement extends it to five years, so have to be committed. But the benefits are worth it. As well as putting your knowledge to practical use and improving your job prospects you will be paid a salary. In the third year you will take the structural engineering lead on a project to design an eco-town or urban regeneration site. The course is accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Institute of Highway Engineers. Graduates work all over the world for companies including AECOM, Arup, Mott MacDonald, URS, Kier and VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd.
