About Program

Program Overview

Understanding how and why people behave in a particular way is vitally important. From government departments to international charities, organisations develop and use research to address the issues that affect society today, aiming to improve lives and make a difference to diverse social groups.

Your degree will give you the practical skills, knowledge and understanding to investigate key challenges facing society. You’ll also have the flexibility to choose your own study pathway.

As part of your course you will learn how to gather and manipulate data, identify and understand patterns in that data, and consider how social statistics are created, presented, and used. You'll learn highly valued data literacy and analysis skills including:

You'll be supported to develop your quantitative research skills through our engaging and accessible teaching methods. You’ll learn how to think critically about data and numbers. Specialist maths skills are not a necessity, as you'll be expertly guided through any numerical learning.

We offer valuable optional work experience as part of your degree, giving you the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge you have gained on your degree into live work projects. This might include completion as part of your studies, during the summer or a year long placement at a variety of organisations including YouGov, Shelter and South Yorkshire Police.
