**Why choose this course?**– You’ll be taught by staff who are actively involved in research and who publish and present their work nationally and internationally. – As part of this course, you’ll develop key skills for employment, including project management, research design, data analysis and report writing.– Through an optional work placement, you can prepare yourself for employment and increase your workplace skills.**About this course**On this course, you’ll examine how the English language works in the real world. You’ll look at how language is used at work and leisure, how people learn and teach languages, how different languages ‘see’ the world, and how people use language for identity. You’ll analyse grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and conversation, from the smallest sounds to complex discourse. You’ll investigate accents and dialects, language use, variation, change, and links to society.Through an extended piece of work, such as a dissertation, you’ll specialise in an area of language and linguistics of your choice.
