Program Overview
This course has an emphasis on creative visual thinking and craft. They will become a versatile practitioner, experimenting creatively and generating strong ideas for a wide range of projects. They will explore both the traditional core disciplines of graphic design and the possibilities of new technology. We offer an integrated approach to learning and encourage collaboration, experimentation and engagement in a wide range of related visual practices. These include: Typography, Image Making, Information Design, Photography and Art Direction, Experimental Formats, Branding and Packaging, 3D Crafts, Web Design and Moving Image. They will have access to individual desk space, tutorial and group designated zones and central iMac/digital facilities. Our workshop facilities include wood, metal, plastics, ceramics, textiles, screen printing, letterpress and experimental print, photography, animation, digital suites/labs and laser-cutting. Our teams of specialist and award-winning lecturers have strong links with industry. Many are successful practitioners in their field. They will develop a solid understanding of design process, problem solving, ideas generation and visual language via a programme of set projects, lectures, seminars, workshops, critiques and studio practice. They will have the opportunity to enter and work on live briefs. They could also win commendations, awards and placements in a number of high profile national and international competitions, including: D&AD, Roses, YCN, Penguin Books, The Shelf Awards, Shine Awards, Creative Conscience, Worshipful Company of Clockmakers and Staffordshire University Creative CV Awards.
