Program Overview


The Master of Information Technology (MIT) at the University of Newcastle is a broad, flexible and technical degree which offers exciting and diverse career opportunities and challenges.

As well as providing foundation IT skills for entrants with limited IT experience, the program provides opportunities for experienced IT professionals to enhance and apply their skills within emerging technology driven growth areas including IT, communications, management, business and entrepreneurship.

Program Outline

You will develop the critical knowledge and skills required to work as an IT professional. You will also tailor your program by choosing directed courses that align with your career goals and interests.

Students can choose a specialisation in areas including business analytics or management information systems, but it will also be possible to complete the MIT without a specialisation.

NOTE: the following breakdown of courses reflects the full length program. Students who are eligible for credit or recognition of prior learning will take less courses.

Information Technology Specialisations

Business Analytics

In the Business Analytics specialisation you will study Data Analytics for Business Intelligence, Database Management 2, Business Intelligence for the Enterprise and Big Data. You will also choose four additional courses from a list of directed courses.

Management Information Systems

In the Management Information Systems specialisation you will study Managing Under Uncertainty, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, The Digital Economy and Business Intelligence for the Enterprise. You will also choose four additional courses from a list of directed courses.
