APM Project Management Fundamentals (PFQ)

Overview

The APM Project Management Fundamentals (PFQ) course is designed to provide a broad understanding of the principles of project management. This intensive two-day course prepares students to sit the APM PFQ test and is suitable for those with no prior knowledge or experience in project management.

The course is taught in English using a combination of instruction, presentations, discussion, team exercises, and sample exam questions. Each classroom session covers a specific subject, addressing all main topics covered by the APM PFQ syllabus in a structured and consistent way.


  • Pre-course material is provided, with a recommended six hours of study before attending the program.
  • Online learning material is available via Blackboard, including supplementary learning material, an online Q&A forum, additional practice quizzes, and the opportunity to submit a full question attempt for feedback.
  • Teaching time is approximately 15 hours, with a further two hours of evening study to reinforce learning and prepare for the exam.
  • Optional consultations with tutors are available outside of teaching hours.

The Fundamentals Qualification is a one-hour, 60-question, multiple-choice exam, with a pass mark of 60% of the total available marks. The PFQ syllabus assesses key elements of the project management life cycle and covers knowledge areas from the APM Body of Knowledge, including:

About the APM and PFQ

The Association for Project Management (APM) is the only chartered body for the project profession, with over 30,000 individual members and more than 500 organizations participating in its Corporate Partnership Programme. The APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (SCQF Level 6) is a multiple-choice examination that offers a fundamental awareness of project management terminology, giving students the knowledge to make a positive contribution to any project.
