Program Overview
This accelerated 3-year BSc program in Theoretical Physics and Mathematics at Maynooth University is designed for students with a strong interest in these subjects. Students will focus on advanced mathematics and various aspects of the physical world, from the microscopic to the cosmic. Graduates can pursue careers in research, computing, finance, teaching, and more. Students with a H2 grade in Leaving Certificate Mathematics are eligible for entry.

This program is an accelerated 3-year degree designed for students with a strong interest in theoretical physics and mathematics. Students will focus on these subjects throughout the three years, delving deeper into various areas of modern mathematics and the various aspects of the physical world, from the microscopic to the cosmic.
Program Structure:
- Students enter directly into the 2nd year of the standard 4-year Mathematical Physics programme.
- They take a more challenging Mathematics program beginning in first year.
- Concentrate on Theoretical Physics and Mathematics for each of the 3 years of the degree.

- Mathematics: Students will develop a deeper understanding of diverse areas of modern mathematics including:
- Analysis
- Algebra
- Geometry
- Topology
- Theoretical Physics: Students will study various topics including:
- Black holes
- Big Bang
- Quantum Computing
- Elementary particles and fundamental forces
- Superconductivity
- Neural networks
- Matter in extreme conditions

Other:
- Students with a H2 grade in Leaving Certificate Mathematics are eligible for entry into this program.
- Students require 50% in Maths (Pure) to proceed to 2nd year.
- Students continue with Mathematical Studies in 2nd year if they attain less than 50%. This section includes information about mature applicants and access routes such as HEAR and DARE.

Leaving Certificate Applicants:
- Required to present (as a minimum): 2H5 & 4O6/H7 and O6/H7 in Irish, English, Science subject (i.e. Agricultural Science, Applied Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, or Physics with Chemistry) & H2 Mathematics.
Mature Students:
- Mature Applicants are assessed separately to school-leavers. Mature applicants are 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time/flexible degrees the mature age is 21.
