About Program

Program Overview


This one-year full-time program offers students the opportunity to earn a degree equivalent to a four-year computer science degree. Students choose nine modules and complete a project, preparing them for careers in computer science or further postgraduate study. The program commences in September.

Entry Requirements


EU Home Students:

  • Applicants for the course are required to hold a 3-year university degree (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent honours degree), or its equivalent, recognized by the Senate of the University with computing as one of its subjects.
  • Examples include BA degrees with computing and degrees where computing is a minor subject.
  • Graduates with less computing than required are recommended to also apply for the Higher Diploma in Software Development MHG70.
  • Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to an Irish university primary degree level (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent honours degree).

International Overseas Students:

  • Applicants are required to hold a 3-year university degree (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent honours degree), or its equivalent, recognized by the Senate of the University with computing as one of its subjects.
  • Examples include BA degrees with computing and degrees where computing is a minor subject.
  • Graduates with less computing than required are recommended to also apply for the Higher Diploma in Software Development MHG70.
  • Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to an Irish university primary degree level (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent honours degree).
  • Applicants for whom English is not their first language are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to benefit fully from their course of study.
  • The requirements specified are applicable for both EU and international applicants.
  • Maynooth University's TOEFL code is 8850.
  • The course also accepts applications through the RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) route from candidates with a 3-year Level 7 degree, coupled with relevant industrial experience or practice.
  • Applicants who do not have a Level 8 primary degree may also apply through the Maynooth University (RPL) Recognition of Prior Learning route.

  • Applicants for whom English is not their first language are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to benefit fully from their course of study.
