Program Overview


The PhD in Chinese Studies offers research degree opportunities for students with specific interest in the fields of Chinese language, literature and culture. The research profiles of staff members are varied, covering cultural and literary analysis with particular emphasis on: Chinese nationalism and quest for national identity; the conflict and communication between China and the West; China's sport policy and practice; Chinese martial arts; comparative philosophy; philosophy in literature; Chinese Buddhism.

Program Outline

The student, in consultation with his/her supervisor, will devise a research plan. It is advised that students also avail of the opportunity to take Language Specific modules (CN610, CN 620), Generic/Transferrable Skills modules (GST11, GST13, GST15 or other) and / or Subject-specific/Advanced Specialist modules (any of the CN84X modules, e.g. CN840, CN841 or CN842).
