Get advice on managing an allotment or larger garden, and growing a range of fruit, vegetables and herbs, with our one-day course at Writtle College.
Full Description
Over the course of the day we'll cover topics including:
- Where to begin on a new plot
- Soil management
- Sowing techniques
- Ways of growing (including organic)
- Weed identification and control.
Practical sessions will vary depending on the time of year.
You'll also receive information on a range of pests, diseases, disorders and weeds, as well as advice on implementing a suitable control programme.
Please bring note-keeping equipment with you on the day.
Free parking is available on campus in Writtle: we'll issue a permit to you and ask that it's clearly displayed in your vehicle. Tea and coffee-making facilities are available; please bring a packed lunch and any other refreshments.

This course is open to all. It's aimed at beginners who are managing an allotment or larger area of garden.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however you're required to wear work clothes, sturdy footwear (steel toe-capped preferred), and gloves. You'll be taking notes on the day so we ask you to bring note-taking equipment.
