The hospitality sector employs 3.2 million people in the UK, representing 10% of all employment, 6% of businesses, and 5% of GDP. And yet the sector continues to unlock its full potential as one of the biggest engines for growth in the economy.
2020 was a difficult year for hospitality, but consumers remain eager to visit hospitality venues. The economy will look to the hospitality sector to spearhead the UK’s post-pandemic economic revival.

Year 1
In Year 1 we’ll focus on your understanding of business sustainability, scope, and organisational structure in the hospitality sector.
You’ll be introduced to the origins and development of hospitality, and enhance your insight into today’s hospitality, tourism, and events management sector. We’ll explore design, direction, and control of facilities, processes, and activities required to deliver quality service – as well as identifying the importance of a business’s approach to long-term success, from dedication to customer satisfaction.
We’ll look at the wider business set-up, exploring performance contributions from human resources, operations scheduling, quality control, service supply relations, as well as economic concepts, accounting principles, and mathematics.
Throughout Year 1, you’ll develop employability skills through learning methods such as critical thinking and group work.

Year 2
Year 2 introduces you to different customer service functions and their importance to the success of hospitality organisations. You’ll identify how these customer service functions create and sustain advantages over the competition.
We’ll explore the role that HR management plays in the strategic planning and development of domestic and multinational organisations, alongside the role of marketing in implementing and controlling planning processes. We take time to evaluate alternative approaches in marketing, looking at short and long-term organisation and market demands.
We’ll also apply theoretical business development concepts and models to hospitality practice and examine the unique characteristics of its products and services.

Year 3
In your final year, you’ll look at global factors that impact hospitality and tourism industries, through literature research, case studies, and collaborative working. Together, we’ll evaluate an organisation's situation, analysis, selection of strategic alternatives, and implementation and evaluation of strategic plans.
We’ll also examine theoretical and practical approaches to leading change, with emphasis on people management issues and discussions on different types of leaders and organisational change.
You’ll learn about the history of public venues, business management, finance, ticketing, safety, and booking, and evaluate real-world examples of invoices, cash flows, rental agreements, and financial statements. Finally, your Undergraduate Major Project is a chance to carry out individual research, based upon a real-world case study.

Entry requirements
- Standard entry requirements:
- ARU London's standard offer is 96 UCAS tariff points from 3 A Levels, eg BCC.
- Alternatively, ARU London asks for:
- Irish Leaving Certificate: BBCCC.
- Scottish Highers: BBCCC.
- BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma: DMM in a business-related subject.
- International Baccalaureate Diploma: 24 points.
- All applicants are required to have at least 3 GCSEs at grade C, or grade 4, or above, including English and Maths.
- If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.0 (Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.
