Overview
Learn how to assess and monitor dog behaviour, and manage dogs from different households, with our one-day course at ARU in Writtle. If you work as a dog walker, home boarder or a day carer, it's an ideal introduction to canine behaviour.

Our canine behaviour course covers:
- meeting a dog and assessing its behaviour
- common canine signs and signals
- when play is not play
- triggers and trigger stacking
- managing groups of dogs on a walk
- for home boarders/day carers: providing enrichment, how to monitor and record behaviour, handling dogs and human interactions.
Your tutor is Kate Middleton BSc MSc PGCE. Kate has a degree in Animal Science and a Masters in Animal Behaviour. She started her own dog-walking and pet-sitting business in 2014, and also works part-time as a teacher in canine-related studies. She holds a Level 4 in Canine Emergency First Aid, and is currently studying for an Advanced Level 5 Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management.
When you complete this course we will issue you a certificate of attendance. Due to the content of the course please be aware you are not permitted to bring your own dog.
Free parking is available on campus in Writtle: we'll issue a permit to you and ask that it's clearly displayed in your vehicle. Tea and coffee-making facilities are available; please bring a packed lunch and any other refreshments.

There are no formal entry requirements, though note that this canine behaviour course is designed for professionals working with dogs as a dog walker, home boarder or day carer.
You must be over 16 to join the course.
By making a booking you are declaring yourself medically fit to participate in the course.
