Program Overview


This MA in Dramatherapy program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of dramatherapy techniques and their application in clinical settings. Through placements, workshops, and theoretical studies, students develop practical skills and knowledge in assessment, referral, and multidisciplinary teamwork. The program culminates in a Major Project and oral assessment, preparing graduates for careers in healthcare, social services, education, and private practice.

In Year 1, students will:

  • Go on a placement in one clinical area.
  • Explore the theoretical framework for the clinical knowledge and understanding of dramatherapy.
  • Examine their role in securing and improving health and well-being for patients/clients.
  • Develop practical techniques of dramatherapy and be able to integrate and apply these to different clinical situations.
  • In Year 2, students will:
  • Take on more advanced clinical work, learning how to practice as a dramatherapist without discrimination.
  • Work independently and show an advanced level of evaluative clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Understand fully the assessment and referral processes relating to casework and be able to work in a multidisciplinary team in community-based and other settings.
  • Explore ethical considerations and issues of cultural diversity and practice, using evaluation methods as preparation for their own research.
  • Complete the MA Therapies Major Project, which involves some clinical or theoretical evaluation and research.

Tuition fees for UK students (2023/24)

£10,000 UK students starting 2023/24 (full-time, per year) ARU graduates may be eligible for an Alumni Scholarship and get a 20% fee discount. Tuition fees for international students (2023/24)

£15,800 International students starting 2023/24 (full-time, per year) You can pay your fees upfront, in full or in two instalments. We will ask for a deposit of £4,000 or a sponsorship letter Find out about paying your fees. For postgraduate courses, international ARU graduates are automatically considered for an International Alumni Scholarship, worth £3,000 off first-year fees.
