Program Overview


EAST - Eastern Airway Skills Training

Overview

EAST is a one-day course aimed at anaesthetic trainees and speciality doctors in anaesthesia. It's also suitable for emergency medicine doctors and anaesthetic consultants wishing to refresh their skills and knowledge.


Full Description

Our course encompasses all areas of airway management with an emphasis on small group workshops and interactive lectures. Places are limited to allow plenty of time for practical skills.


Workshop Sessions

  • Fibreoptics – mechanics and practical techniques
  • Front of Neck Access – cricothyroidotomy
  • Supraglottic Airway Devices
  • Difficult Airway Society guidelines
  • Lung isolation – Double lumen tube / Bronchial blockers

Lecture/Discussion Sessions

  • Airway assessment and management of the expected difficult airway
  • Difficult Airway Society guidelines
  • Obstetric guidelines
  • Management of awake fibreoptic intubation
  • Extubation issues

We have support from several companies providing a range of fibreoptic scopes, videolaryngoscopes, and other airway equipment for use during the course.


The EAST course is facilitated by anaesthetic consultants and fellows from the East of England.


Cost

  • HEE EoE Anaesthetic Trainees: fully funded for Stage 2 - ST4-5 Anaesthesia and ICM trainees
  • Other doctors: £150
  • Nurses/ODPs: £150

Full payment will be required (if applicable) before your application is progressed.


Who Should Attend?

Our short course requires basic airway skills and a minimum of three months aesthetic training - aimed at anaesthetic trainees and speciality doctors in anaesthesia. Specialist Nurses are now allocated through the trust via bridge.
