Overview
Our instructor will come to you to train you in using 180° and/or 360° tracked or wheeled excavators. This three-day course is Lantra Awards approved.
Full Description
Our experienced instructor can offer training on the following machine types:
- 180° below 5 tonnes
- 180° above 5 tonnes
- 360° below 10 tonnes (tracked)
- 360° below 10 tonnes (wheeled)
- 360° above 10 tonnes (tracked)
- 360° above 10 tonnes (wheeled)
Some topics covered include:
- Identify and comply with manufacturer's instructions in accordance with the operator's handbook
- Carry out pre-use and running checks
- Configure the excavator for site travel
- Travel the machine over varying types of terrain including rough undulating ground and substantial inclines
- Manoeuvre the excavator in confined areas
- Set the machine to excavate
- Excavate below ground level on a variety of excavations in different ground types
- Place spoil into various sizes of vehicles/hoppers
- Grade, spread and level different types of terrain
- Remove and re-attach buckets
- Place the machine in an out of service condition
- Explain the loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter
The instructor/student ratio is 1:2.
Training will take place at your location using your own machine.

Entry Requirements
We are governed by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations therefore candidates will not be allowed to start the course without wearing steel toe capped boots or shoes, gloves and suitable protective clothing which provides full cover for arms and legs. We strongly recommend also wearing a high-visibility vest.
