This module aims to help you achieve the development of your scope of practice in accordance with service requirements and policies as required by clinical practice.
Full Description
This theory/practice module will ensure you’ll learn both in the classroom and the practice area. You’ll be taught using a variety of methods including lectures, group work, case-based scenarios, basic surgical skills workshops, and simulation-based learning.
Who Should Attend?
This module is suitable for any registered nurse or operating department practitioner who has already undertaken core Surgical First Assistant training.

Entry Requirements
If you wish to be considered for this module, you’ll have successfully completed the Surgical First Assistant module and be regularly working as an SFA. Where students have not completed MOD (Surgical First Assistant) they are required to provide evidence of having successfully completed level 6 Surgical First Assistant study plus evidence to demonstrate recent practice in the Surgical First Assistant role. Where there has been completion of other recognised SFA learning (example – the AfPP SFA Competency Toolkit) applications must be accompanied by evidence of recent practice in the Surgical First Assistant role.
You must be able to demonstrate that you have the support of your manager and that there are named individuals willing to support you as your mentor and clinical supervisor.

30 This theory/practice module involves classroom learning, group work, case based scenarios, basic surgical skills workshops, and simulation based learning. Additionally, clinical practice under the supervision of a Consultant Surgeon or established clinician within the student's practice area is included. Students are required to demonstrate competence and critical reflection in their experiences during the clinical component of the module.
