About Program

Program Overview

Facilitating Complex Childbirth

Overview

Develop your existing knowledge and skills by exploring how, as midwives, we can support positive outcomes for women with complex social, emotional, and physical needs.

Full Description

On this module, you'll explore the role of the midwife in supporting women with complex social, emotional and physical needs, particularly during the intrapartum period. You'll use the most up to date national and international reports into the causes of maternal morbidity and mortality to evolve and adapt to the needs of midwives, women and wider society.

You’ll be encouraged to identify both direct and indirect causes of maternal mortality. You'll explore the role of the midwife in addressing these, as well as demonstrating an in-depth understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of a chosen condition.

Furthermore, you’ll give consideration to wider determinants which can impact on the needs of women and evaluate and reflect upon your own clinical practice and how you can support positive outcomes for women with complex needs in the future. You can take this module standalone or as part of our MSc Higher Midwifery Practice course.

Who Should Attend?
