Introduction

Develop the skills and knowledge you need to become an effective Hearing Aid Audiologist with our Hearing Aid Dispenser Higher Apprenticeship. Study for a foundation degree in Hearing Aid Audiology while you work, with no tuition fees.

Delivery and Assessment

  • 2 years + 1 month (part-time)
  • An apprenticeship is a job with training, combining practical experience with academic learning.
  • At least 20% of your contracted working hours will be classed as 'off-the-job'. This time will be dedicated to developing the knowledge and skills needed to meet the requirements of the apprenticeship, and therefore is not part of your usual work duties.
  • The off-the-job learning will be delivered through online university-led learning sessions and activities, residentials, and practical learning experiences in your usual work setting.
  • The off-the-job learning for our Hearing Aid Dispenser Higher Apprenticeship is delivered online with residentials on our Cambridge campus.

Assessment

  • You will be assessed at the end of each module you undertake (on-programme assessments) which will contribute towards the final award of your qualification.
  • You will also undertake an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete your apprenticeship.
  • The EPA for this apprenticeship is independently assessed and takes place when all on-programme assessments have been successfully passed.

Accreditation

  • Approved by HCPC
  • Our Hearing Aid Audiology FdSc degree course is accredited by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) so when you graduate, you’ll be able to register and get to work as a hearing aid dispenser. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will also receive the Health and Care Professions Council Level 5 award.

Careers

  • With our qualification you will be able to work independently as a Hearing Aid Dispenser registered with the Health & Care Professions Council, and take your career to a new level. Other job titles may include Audiologist, Hearing Aid Audiologist and Hearing Specialist. When you graduate you can go straight into work or continue your studies to achieve a Hearing Sciences (Top-up) BSc Hons degree.

Entry Requirements

  • Employment in a suitable role on a permanent contract exceeding 25 hours per week
  • Employer support to undertake this course, with a confirmed, assigned HCPC (or equivalent body) registered supervisor/mentor
  • Confirmed eligibility to be funded as an apprentice as set out within the ESFA’s Funding Rules
  • A completed Skills Scan and Initial Assessment discussion, post interview
  • Evidence of Level 2 qualifications in 3 subjects including Maths and English e.g. GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, Functional Skills, or ESFA-approved equivalents*
  • Evidence of at least 32 UCAS Tariff points at Level 3 e.g. A Levels, BTEC (or equivalent)**

*If you do not have the appropriate Level 2 Maths and English, you must ensure you complete these prior to the start of the course. For further details about which qualifications meet Level 2 requirements check the gov.uk website.


**We will also consider applicants with non-standard qualifications provided you have a significant amount of relevant experience, are well-supported by your employer, and demonstrate the ability to manage university-level study. This is with the exception of ESFA approved Level 2 Maths and English qualifications which are mandatory.


Teaching at ARU

  • Degree apprenticeships are delivered via a blend of face-to-face campus teaching, work-based learning and online teaching supported by our established online learning systems to provide additional support for individual study and engagement. The mix of this blended approach varies between apprenticeships.
