PG Cert Medical and Healthcare Education
Introduction
Become an educational leader within your healthcare organisation with our online PGCert in Medical and Healthcare Education, ideal if you are a registered healthcare professional with at least 2 years of post-registration experience-who engages in teaching or learning as part of your job role.
The Medical and Healthcare Education PGCert is accredited by Academy of Medical Educators (AoME), as well as being aligned to the Professional Standards Framework (PSF 23) for Advance HE should you wish to apply for Fellowship of the Advance HE.
Expect to benefit from a course that is delivered through distance learning to fit in with your busy schedule, with a course content that reflects the current trends and practices of healthcare education today.
You’ll gain an understanding of the key principles and philosophies of teaching and learning, and you’ll be encouraged to apply your knowledge to your own professional work context. You’ll learn through a range of activities and formative assessments; complemented by individual tutorials that encourage personal reflection and goal setting, developing you as an independent learner.
Studying alongside GPs, junior doctors, consultants, nurses, dentists, midwives, paramedics and other allied health professionals, discussion and inter-professional learning are key to the vibrancy of this course, enriching your student experience.
On completion of the PGCert you may wish to continue your studies and progress to a full Masters in Medical and Healthcare Education.

Entry Requirements
- Standard entry requirements:
- Main: Applicants will require a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree, or primary medical qualification. You must be registered practitioners with at least 2 years of post-registration experience in the field of health or social care and will be engaged in facilitating teaching and learning as part of your professional role.
- Non-graduates with extensive relevant current practical and continuing professional development experience will be considered for entry to the course in accordance with the University regulations with guidance from the Pathway leader/Programme leader.
- If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 7 (Academic level-) or equivalent such as an OET Score B or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.

- ARU graduates may be eligible for an Alumni Scholarship and get a 20% fee discount.
Careers
The course is designed to support those already facilitating learning as part of their employment in the healthcare professions. However, nearly 50% of graduates from the course in the academic year 2016/17 reported that the course had helped them either secure a promotion within their current field, or had taken up a new role with a substantially more educational focus.
