Program Overview


The Construction Quantity Surveying Technician Apprenticeship is a 2-year part-time program that combines practical experience with academic learning. Apprentices will gain skills in technology, structures, health and safety, project control, BIM, law, and economics. Upon completion, graduates will earn a Cert HE in Quantity Surveying and be prepared for roles such as Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Cost Engineer. The program also offers opportunities for further career advancement through the Construction Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship or a top-up to a full BSc (Hons) degree in Quantity Surveying.

Program Outline

Outline:

  • The Construction Quantity Surveying Technician Apprenticeship is a 2-year (plus up to 6 months) part-time program that combines practical experience with academic learning.
  • The program is delivered on a day release basis at the Chelmsford and ARU Peterborough campuses.
  • Apprentices will spend at least 20% of their contracted working hours on off-the-job learning, which will include online university-led learning sessions and activities, and practical learning experiences in their usual work setting.
  • The program covers a range of topics, including:
  • - Technology and Structures
  • - Health and Safety, Project Control and Resourcing
  • - BIM and Dimensional Control
  • - Law and Economics

Assessment:

  • Apprentices will be assessed at the end of each module they undertake (on-programme assessments) which will contribute towards the final award of their qualification.
  • Apprentices will also undertake an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete their apprenticeship when all on-programme assessments have been successfully passed.

Teaching:

  • The program is delivered by a team of experienced academics and industry professionals.
  • The program uses a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, workshops, and online learning.
  • The program also provides opportunities for apprentices to undertake work-based learning projects.

Careers:

  • Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, graduates will have a Cert HE in Quantity Surveying and a minimum of two years' relevant work experience.
  • The skills, knowledge, and experience developed during the course will prepare graduates for roles such as Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Assistant Construction Surveyor, Quantity Surveying Technician, Assistant Cost Engineer, or Assistant Cost Analyst.
  • Graduates can also progress onto the Construction Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship, and top-up their Cert HE to a full BSc (Hons) degree in Quantity Surveying to open up further career opportunities in surveying.
