PG Cert Simulation in Medical and Healthcare Education

Introduction

Combine your passions for health and education with our Higher Education Academy PG Cert focusing on simulation in medical and healthcare education. Equip yourself to become a leader of the future in this specialized field.

Simulation-based education in health professions is growing. This PGCert will give you the opportunity to study those principles specific to teaching and learning using simulation, irrespective of the resources available. A broader holistic view of education, exploring curriculum design and the socio-cultural context of education, completes the program.

You’ll benefit from the inter-disciplinary nature of the course, attracting applicants from across the range of healthcare professions including medicine, nursing, midwifery, and paramedicine.

By both participating in and facilitating sessions in our high fidelity simulation suite, in the School of Medicine, you’ll develop an appreciation of all the elements that contribute to successful simulation-based learning. You’ll engage in personal reflective activities, as well as attend formal teaching, giving you the theory underpinning the practice.

On completion of the PGCert, you may wish to continue your studies and progress to the full Masters Award in Medical and Healthcare Education.

Teaching and Assessment

Your assessment will be constructively aligned with your teaching practice. You’ll be both formatively and summatively assessed in each module through lesson plans, teaching observations, reflective essays, and poster presentations.

Entry Requirements

Applicants will require a minimum of a 2:2 honors degree, or primary medical qualification. You must be registered practitioners with at least 2 years of post-registration experience in the field of health or social care and will be engaged in facilitating teaching and learning as part of your professional role.

Students must be registered practitioners in the field of health or social care. It is anticipated therefore that students undertaking the course will currently be employed in professional practice with at least 2 years of post-registration experience and will be engaged in facilitating teaching and learning as part of their professional role.

If English is not your first language, you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 7 (Academic level-) or equivalent such as an OET Score B or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognized by Anglia Ruskin University.

Tuition Fees for UK Students (2025/26)

£3,700 UK students starting 2025/26 (part-time, per year)

ARU graduates may be eligible for an Alumni Scholarship and get a 20% fee discount.

Fees are payable upfront, in full or in installments, but there’s no need to pay until you’ve accepted an offer to study with us.
