The Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program at Weber State University is designed for students who have studied a related field in health or exercise science. The program prepares students for a career as a certified athletic trainer in allied healthcare.
Program Overview
The MSAT program is a two-year program that begins in the fall semester. Students complete a two-day orientation before starting the program. The program focuses on various aspects of athletic training, including upper and lower extremity orthopedic assessment, therapeutic modalities, aquatic therapy, therapeutic rehabilitation, radiology, pharmacology, management, and leadership development.

Accreditation
The MSAT program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
Clinical Experience
The MSAT program provides students with over 1,000 clinical hours across seven clinical rotation periods. Students also participate in two clinical immersion experiences, where they work side by side with their preceptor and gain a comprehensive understanding of the professional setting.

Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the MSAT program, students must:
- Have a minimum 3.0 grade point average
- Have completed prerequisite coursework, including:
- Introduction to Public Health
- Science and Application of Human Nutrition
- Biomechanics
- Exercise Physiology
- Introductory Psychology
- Integrated Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II
- Elementary Physics
- Introductory Chemistry
- Animal Biology
- Submit official transcripts
- Submit an essay or personal statement
- Provide two letters of recommendation
- Complete observation hours with a Certified Athletic Trainer
International Student Applicants
International students must also:
- Submit an official English Language Proficiency score
- Have their coursework evaluated by a foreign credential evaluation service
- Meet the minimum English Language Proficiency scores
Retention Requirements
Once in the MSAT program, students must:
- Maintain a grade point average of 3.0
- Receive a grade of B- or better in all required courses
- Adhere to MSAT Athletic Training Student Handbook policies
Transfer Credits
The program accepts transfer credits from regionally accredited colleges and universities. Students may apply for up to nine transfer credits.
Immunization, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screening
Students must provide proof of immunizations, complete a criminal background check, and pass a 10-panel drug screen before starting the program.
Technical Standards
Students must provide evidence that they can meet the technical standards for admission to the program.
