Mathematics, MMath (Hons)

The MMath Mathematics degree at Swansea University is designed for students who want to study mathematics in more depth and develop advanced mathematical skills. Course Overview

Year 1 (Level 4)

In the first year, students will study a range of core modules, including Geometry: Mathematics, Logic and Communication, Introduction to Modelling and Simulation, Introduction to Analysis 1 and 2, Foundations of Algebra, and Introductory Linear Algebra. Students will also have the opportunity to choose from a range of optional modules, including Mechanics and Dynamics, Introduction to Biomathematics, and Probability and Statistics.

Year 2 (Level 5)

In the second year, students will study a range of core modules, including Differential Equations, Probability Theory, and Multi-Variable Analysis. Students will also have the opportunity to choose from a range of optional modules, including Metric Spaces and Measure Theory, Vector Spaces, Groups and Rings, and Mathematical Modelling: Theory and Practice.

Year 3 (Level 6)

In the third year, students will study a range of core modules, including Higher Algebra and Complex Analysis. Students will also have the opportunity to choose from a range of optional modules, including Partial Differential Equations, Applied Algebra: Coding Theory, Cashflows and Interest Rates, and Financial Mathematics in Discrete Time.

Year 4 (Level 7)

In the final year, students will study a range of core modules, including a project module. Students will also have the opportunity to choose from a range of optional modules, including Partial Differential Equations, Applied Algebra: Coding Theory, Cashflows and Interest Rates, and Financial Mathematics in Discrete Time.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the MMath Mathematics degree, students will typically need to have achieved:

• AAB-ABB at A level, including A level Maths
• DDM Grade A in A Level Maths (for BTEC students)
• 34 overall with 5 at Higher Level or 6 at Standard Level "Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches" or 34 overall with 5 at Higher Level or 7 at Standard Level in "Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation" (for International Baccalaureate students)
