This Modern Languages, Translation, and Interpreting program at Swansea University offers a unique blend of language study, translation, and interpreting skills. Students can choose to study two languages or focus on one, with the option to spend a year abroad for immersive language learning. Degree Overview:
With an integrated year abroad, this specialist programme in Modern Languages, Translation and Interpreting allows you to study two languages alongside supplementary modules in translation and interpreting. At Swansea University, you can study French, German and Spanish both post-A level and from beginner’s level. Students with an A-level in two of these languages can continue their study of both languages with us at an advanced level. Students with an A-level in one of these languages will be required to learn another language via our dedicated beginners language modules. From this programme, you will gain the knowledge and practical skills to prepare you for a professional language career in the modern world. Please note that you must have at least one A-level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant language to be considered for this degree programme. You will also spend a year abroad, studying in one of our partner institutions with excellent translation and interpretation programmes – an exciting and valuable opportunity, which will further boost your student experience and your employment prospects.

Entry Requirements:
Our standard entry requirement is ABB-BBC (UCAS tariff points 112-128). All offers are made following a review of the application form, predicted/achieved grades and subjects, the reference and personal statement. We also accept a range of advanced level qualifications including: International Baccalaureate 32; Welsh Baccalaureate - grade equivalent to A-level; Access to Higher Education and Open University qualifications, and Extended Project. A GCSE at minimum grade C (4) in a modern foreign language is preferable but not essential. All language applications will be considered on merit. Here are the requirements for International students. For applicants whose first language is not English, we require IELTS 6.0 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component) or equivalent English test.
