Program Outline
Degree Overview:
Immerse yourself in the literature and poetry of Wales while learning about the social, cultural, and political history of the language on our Cymraeg (first language) BA programme. You will study a wide range of literature including plays, short stories, and novels, as well as poetry from the medieval bardic tradition to modern protest songs. You will develop a keen understanding of Welsh language and grammar, linguistics, language planning policy, and learn valuable translation skills. Throughout your studies, you will develop excellent research and analytical skills and learn to present your ideas effectively both verbally and in writing.
Outline:
Our flexible degree structure with a range of optional modules gives you plenty of scope to tailor your studies to your particular interests, career goals, or ambitions for postgraduate study. Your first year is made up of compulsory modules covering essential critical skills, translation, the poetic tradition, and the development of the Welsh language.
Teaching:

Our standard entry requirement is ABB-BBC (UCAS tariff points 112-128) or equivalent. All offers are made following a review of the application form, predicted/achieved grades and subjects, the reference and personal statement. We also accept a range of advanced level qualifications including: International Baccalaureate 32; Welsh Baccalaureate - grade equivalent to A-level; Access to Higher Education and Open University qualifications, and Extended Project. 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above to include Maths and English/Welsh. A level ABB-BBC (A level Welsh will be required for Second Language Welsh but not for First Language).
Language Proficiency Requirements:
For applicants whose first language is not English, we require IELTS 6.0 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component) or equivalent English test.
