Program Outline

Degree Overview:

The MA in Sports Communication and Journalism program aims to equip students with the media and PR skills necessary for a career in sports management. The program combines theoretical and practical subjects to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary professional communication, journalism, and public relations in a sports-related context. Graduates of the program will be able to identify strong stories, develop narratives, bring stories to life with videography and still images, and distribute content to existing and potential fan bases.

Outline:

The program consists of a set number of 20-credit modules, followed by a 60-credit dissertation project in the second part of the course. All assignments have a sports focus. Modules include theory-based subjects, such as video and documentary making, professional and promotional writing, global media, and the business and politics of digital media, as well as practice-based subjects, such as visual communications, media design, public relations, branding, and promotion.
