Course Objectives

  • Organising the Coffee Workstation: Participants will learn how to set up and organise a coffee workstation efficiently.
  • Coffee Bean Selection and Grinding: Participants will learn about different coffee varieties, their characteristics, and the importance of freshness in achieving optimal taste.
  • Advising Customers on Espresso Coffee Beverages: Participants will gain knowledge on the various types of espresso-based beverages and their ingredients.
  • Espresso Extraction and Quality Monitoring: Participants will learn the proper extraction of espresso, covering aspects such as water temperature, grind size, and tamping techniques.
  • Milk Texturing: Participants will be introduced to the art of milk texturing, which involves creating the perfect microfoam for latte and achieving a silky-smooth texture.
  • Serving Espresso Coffee Beverages: This section will cover the presentation and serving of espresso coffee beverages.
  • Cleaning Espresso Equipment: Maintaining hygiene and cleanliness is crucial for ensuring the longevity and optimal performance of espresso equipment.

Entrance Requirements / Pre-requisites

Learners must be 16 years of age and over at the time of course commencement. There are no pre-requisite units for this course.


Method

This course is a combination of lecture, group discussion and practice.


Assessment

Participants will be evaluated based on their preparation of a variety of espresso coffee beverages under the trainer’s supervision. The taste and appeal of their work will be assessed. Written and oral questioning may be used to evaluate their knowledge of espresso beverage types, bean varieties, blends, roasts, and preparation methods. Competence in basic maintenance and cleaning of espresso grinders and machines is also required.


Certification

Participants will be provided with a Certificate of Completion within 1 week of completion of the course.
