This qualification is part of the Aviation Training Package.


Overview

This course is targeted to students who have completed their CPL, and want to improve their employability with a multi engine command instrument rating (ME CIR.)


International students may be eligible for a student visa for this course. CRICOS course code C.

Overview

This option of the Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating) is designed for students who already hold a Commercial Pilot Licence.


The course is designed to prepare students for their first job in aviation; either as a Charter Pilot or a First Officer in an airline.


Local students enrolled in either course may be eligible for VET FEE HELP funding. Overseas students enrolled in the course may be eligible for a student visa.


This course lasts for 20 weeks. At the end of the course, successful students will be awarded a Diploma of Aviation, and will qualify for a CASA ME CIR assessment.


It is a full time course with compulsory attendance from Monday to Friday, and there are no scheduled holidays during the course. Extra attendance may be required, depending on weather.


Pre-requisites

Basair Aviation College has policies and procedures to ensure all applicants are treated equally and fairly. The Pre-Requisites in place are designed to identify students with the best chances of having successful careers in aviation.


  • Student is over 18 years of age at the start of the course
  • Student holds a current Class 1 Australian Medical by the start of the course
  • Student has passed the Pilot Aptitude Screening Process* and has been made a firm offer of a place on the course.
  • Unless secondary school has been completed in Australia, the student has achieved an IELTS overall score of 6.5 or above, with no sub-score less than 6.0 (academic assessment)
  • Student satisfies the Academic Requirements** by the start of the course
  • Student holds an Aviation Security Identity Card (ASIC) by the start of the course.
  • Student has supplied Basair a Unique Student Identification (USI) number by the start of the course.

Pilot Aptitude Screening Process

Flying is a wonderful career and one that is highly rewarding. Obtaining the very best start to that career is of paramount importance which is why students at Basair Aviation College are carefully selected to ensure they are given the best possible chance to successfully complete their course.


All applicants are required to successfully complete a Pilot Aptitude Assessment which comprises of an interview and computer based assessment.


  • The computer based assessment comprises of three parts each assessing a core area; skills and aptitudes, attitude and behaviour and knowledge and test.
  • Applicants will be interviewed by a Basair team member after the computer based assessment as part of the screening process.
  • The assessment takes approximately four hours to complete.
  • To be booked in for the assessment, applicants must return a signed conditional letter of offer. The assessment is complimentary for applicants.

Academic Requirements

To meet academic requirements, applicants must satisfy one of the following;


  • Hold an Australian Year 12 Certificate, OR
  • Hold an IB Diploma, OR
  • Hold AQF Certificate IV or above (where the language of instruction was English), OR
  • Successfully complete at or above Exit level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment. The tool used for ensuring the assessment is valid and reliable is “LLN Robot”, an approved assessment tool provided by the College. The assessment may be conducted at any of Basair’s campuses and is facilitated by the Enrolment Officer (or their delegate) who is required to ensure the process is conducted with honesty and integrity. Results are provided to the applicant as soon as practicable after the assessment and the Secretary of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations in the form, manner and by the time requested by the Secretary.
