Program Overview
The Art Department affords a unique experience for students seeking a solid foundation in aesthetics, skill development, and understanding of the forms and history of art. The program has been designed to offer a continuity of study through structured courses in the academic tradition. This understanding of art history as a means of understanding the world is intended to support further studies for transfer students.
Program Learning Outcomes
Students completing this program will be able to:
- Apply critical thinking in the creative process
- Use the language of the discipline; demonstrate command of critical vocabulary
- Describe the roles of creative expression in human cultures
- Engage with the arts; integrate the arts into life
- Use critical thinking in evaluating works of art in intrinsic terms, expressive content, and social context
Requirements
AA-T Degree Requirements Major: Core and Selective Requirements
Complete Core Courses, 15 units
- ART 101 | Ancient, Classical and Medieval Art History | 3 units
- ART 102 | Late Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque Art History | 3 units
- ART 103 | History of Art from the Baroque Period to Post-Impressionism | 3 units
- ART 104 | History of Modern Art | 3 units
- ART 204 | Drawing I | 3 units
Selective Courses, choose 9 units from the following:
