Program Learning Outcomes

Students completing this program will be able to:


  • Describe the roles of creative expression in human cultures.
  • Engage with the arts; integration of the arts into life.
  • Demonstrate creative process; apply critical thinking in the creative process. Use the language of the discipline; demonstrate command of critical vocabulary.
  • Use critical thinking in evaluating works of art in intrinsic terms, expressive content and social context.

Program Overview

The Studio Arts major provides students with a solid foundation in the practice of creating art. It is designed for students who wish to transfer to a four-year school as an Art Major.


Requirements

AA-T Degree Requirements Major: Core and Selective Requirements

Complete Core Courses, 15 units:


  • ART 102 | Late Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque Art History | 3 units
  • ART 103 | History of Art from the Baroque Period to Post-Impressionism | 3 units
  • ART 204 | Drawing I | 3 units
  • ART 301 | Two-Dimensional Design | 3 units
  • ART 306 | Three-Dimensional Design | 3 units

Selective Courses, choose a minimum of 12 units from the following:

  • List A, choose a minimum of 3 units from the following:
    • Art History:
      • ART 101 | Ancient, Classical and Medieval Art History | 3 units
      • ART 105 | Art of Asia and the Near East | 3 units
  • List B: Choose 9 units from the following: Studio Arts:
    • Drawing:
      • ART 205 | Drawing II | 3 units
      • OR
      • ART 207 | Life Drawing | 3 units
    • Color:
      • ART 214 | Color | 3 units
    • Painting:
      • ART 221 | Painting I | 3 units

Total Required Major Units: 27


6 semester units may be double counted. ART 101, ART 102, ART 103 and/or ART 104 may be used to cover up to 6 units of Area C's required 9 units (but no more than 6).
