Study of the earth science prepares students for careers in real estate appraisal, location expertise, forestry technician, park ranger, hazardous waste planner, teacher, cartographer, GIS specialist, map librarian, community developer, weather forecaster, outdoor guide, soil conservationist, hydrologist, among others.

Program Overview
A major in earth science prepares students for further study in the areas of geology, oceanography, meteorology and earth science. Each of these fields study features of the earth.
Requirements
AS Degree Requirements Major: Core and Selective Requirements Selective Courses, choose a minimum of 30 units from the following:
List A, choose a minimum of 7 units from the following:
- GEOL 100: Introduction to Geology (3 units)
- AND
- GEOL 101: Geology Laboratory (1 unit)
- METE 100: Meteorology - Weather and Climate (3 units)
- OCEN 100: Oceanography (3 units)
- AND
- OCEN 101: Oceanography Lab (1 unit)
List B, choose a minimum of 23 units from the following:
- CHEM 210: General Chemistry I (5 units)
- AND
- CHEM 220: General Chemistry II (5 units)
- GEOG 100: Physical Geography (3 units)
- GEOG 101: Physical Geography Lab (1 unit)
- GEOG 110: Cultural Geography (3 units)
- GEOL 100: Introduction to Geology (3 units)
- AND
- GEOL 101: Geology Laboratory (1 unit)
- MATH 200: Elementary Probability and Statistics (4 units)
- MATH 251: Analytical Geometry and Calculus I (5 units)
- AND
- MATH 252: Analytical Geometry and Calculus II (5 units)
- METE 100: Meteorology - Weather and Climate (3 units)

And required General Education coursework and electives as needed to meet the minimum 60 units required for the Associate degree.

Cañada College offers lower division coursework required for transfer in the areas related to Earth Science. Students should use PROJECT ASSIST to research lower division major requirements at the transfer destination(s) of their choice.
